The information system for the built environment and data interoperability in Finland

The ministry of the environment of Finland in cooperation with The Finnish Environment Institute SYKE is currently building a build a national data information system of the built environment. The new system focuses on collecting and distributing planning and building permit data in nationally interoperable format.

The objectives of the project is

  1. to harmonize information so it is readily available to users in the whole society,
  2. that overlapping information is collected less and information is always up to date,
  3. that high-quality information enables better decisions and promotes business and services.

Through the information system, different operators can get the necessary land use and construction information in a current and reliable form. The system’s first phase will be finished in 2024.
