The carbon-free future of world freight transport
The logistics sector plays a vital role in the supply chains that lie at the heart of the global economy. Logistics’ climate impact is large and growing. Comprising 23% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the transport sector is the third largest source of GHG emissions after industry and buildings. The good news is that growth in the logistics sector does not necessarily have to mean growth in emissions. Indeed, to meet global climate goals – limiting global temperatures to less than two degree increase from pre-industrial levels – governments, the logistics sector and its many customers will need to make a concerted effort to decarbonize freight transportation.
This session will go deeper to the emission challenges of logistics and introduces a tool which is used to manage and eventually reduce GHG emissions of logistics in global scale: Transporeon Carbon Visibility, powered by Sixfold. The presentation shows how advances in tech and science, including geoinformatics makes it possible.
