Andrius Balčiūnas

Andrius Balčiūnas, PhD, is a Lecturer at the Vilnius University Geoscience Institute and a GIS developer specializing in building high-performance, cost-effective spatial systems. As the founder of Geografinės informacinės technologijos, he has spent over a decade architecting open-source GIS solutions and SaaS products for both the governmental and business sectors.

Andrius brings this real-world industry experience back to the classroom, where he focuses on teaching students the practical application of web mapping and spatial data science. By combining his commercial expertise with academic research, he aims to provide students with a modern, practice-based understanding of how to build scalable and sustainable geographic information systems.
